Motorcycle Insurance rip off

Motorcycle Insurance rip off
January 14, 2009 11:19AM
I took out a Motorcycle policy about the middle of May, 2008 and was told by the local agent that I could cancel it in 6 months if i didn't ride the bike during the winter, which I don't. I paid for half of the policy (as well as a new membership fee of $15.00 which I am sure was extremely nessesary). I called the agent in late October and the owners wife said she would cancel it November 1st. About the middle of November I got a notice from Farmers that the policy was going to be cancelled for non payment soon. I went to see the agent. The owner of the agency said his wife had passed away and that the policy had not been cancelled because of this. Farmers wanted to charge be about an additional $80.00 which in their policy they have it written that if you cancel a 1 year policy you have to pay 50% of the remaining balance. So since in my case I had paid for half the policy, they wanted half of the other half. I complained to the agent who said that wasn't fair and litterally picked up the phone and called Farmers about this. He spent quite a while arguing my case. They sent a letter and again demanded the $80.00. I got sick of it and paid them. Filing a complaint with the Colorado Insurance Commission did me no good as they said they broke no law. I told them mayby not but since NOBODY gets to read their policy until after they have already paid, don't you think that is crooked?

Just a word of warning to anyone thinking about Farmers for motorcycle insuranece-look around for a company that has 6 month policies and ask a lot of questions. Get everything in writting, these insurance companies are related to snakes in my opinion.

My motorcycle insurance is suppost to renew in February 2010, I received a quote of almost $700 up from $550 from 2009 even though I now have an additional years experience and no tickets no accidents. I emailed my agent who said that in California the uninsured motorist went up. As I understand the law they have to raise everyones rate if they can show the insurance commission an increase in their costs, so I wondered if you could post the question to other California motorcycle riders insured by Foremost if their rate increased like mine
thank you,
Mike Meyer

I am a chapter President of a motorcycle club. A law-abiding MC. We rented a commercial building a year ago to use as our clubhouse. Our landlord is the guy that suggested Farmers to us as his buddy was the agent he uses with many tenants of his.
After a year of making payments (ALL on time and NEVER missed), we were suddenly dropped. Farmers reasoning for dropping us?...."We looked at your website and we are not going to insure a bunch of bikers" THANKS FARMERS!!
The bigger issue for me is that the agent was a DICKHEAD about it! Sounds like Farmers is anti-motorcycle, anti-"biker" to me. I have encouraged anyone I know to drop Farmers.
