Farmers is a member of ALEC

In addition to (or maybe because of) Farmers Ins membership in ALEC we're hearing so many complaints. ALEC stands for the American Legislative Exchange Council and is a reactionary organization dedicated to preserving business interests over consumers well-being and to passing laws for the benefit of the members. It is responsible for, among other things, the "Stand Your Ground" laws, anti-consumer laws, and a myrid of other things. Since coming to light, a number of companies including Walmart and Amazon have dropped out. I've contacted Farmers, Inc to ask when they plan to drop their membership and didn't get a response of any kind.
I signed up with Farmers because they beat the price I had with Auto Owners. As soon as my 6 month policy expires, I'll be signing up with someone else. I'd made that decision based on their ALEC membership before I ever even found this link and found out how horrible they are about a claim.
