I have been an Auto Policy holder with Farmers (California) for over 20 years, having no claims, accidents or traffic violations for all of this time. About 3 months ago, I received my 6 month invoice with an increase of $35.00 with no reason given. I called my agent to ask why, but he could offer no explanation. I then called a number that appeared on my invoice, shown as “Questions about your bill?” This office also could not offer a reason. Now I began getting curious, and was reminded of another question that I had for some time; namely, how much savings was I receiving for the six eligible “discounts” listed on my invoice, so I called the Farmers Underwriters. Surely, they would have answers to these simple questions, right? No, they stated that they would advise my agent to call me with this information. Three weeks passed with no calls. I called him again, left a message, but received no reply.

It would take too much space here to detail all the further attempts I made in regard to my questions, but it included numerous calls and mailings, with absolutely no answers to my queries! The last response I got was from my agent, who said “It just is what it is”.

It is interesting to see Farmers' web page that supposedly informs the reader of their discount benefits. No percentages or monetary values whatsoever are given!

Given this run-around, one could reasonably ask why I bother to stay with Farmers. With a perfect driving record and no claims ever submitted, I would like to know if I have an advantage that I would be giving up in starting fresh with another insurer. I will also admit that it has become a matter of principle.

Finally, to further confuse me, after doing a lengthy web search, I was unable to find a single comment or complaint from anyone regarding this issue. Why?
