Unwarranted rate increase

Out of the blue, our rates went up $500 a year, we contacted farmers and a very rude person refused to discuss this and were told that they could do what ever they wanted.

My homeowners insurance rose $40 in one year. When I called to ask why they gave me a lame excuse that all property values rise each year at about 8%. Well I can tell you that I have never had a rate increase this size in any given year so that answer has no facts in it.

I spoke to my agent who used the excuse that the costs of rebuilding materials have gone up and that there is a COLA (Cost of Living) involved as well. If my house burned down today I would not rebuild the same exact home nor would it be this size in fact it would be smaller and there is no requirement that you have to rebuild the same exact home.

I have not received a COLA in years but I'm suppose to subsides (give welfare) to my agent and Farmers?

She then suggested I cut my coverage to lower my premium, so I'd be getting less but paying the same as last year. She set up an appointment then later emailed me saying I needed to sign paperwork saying I'm changing my policy before she could even begin to give me a new quote. I did not and will not sign anything with Farmers unless I know I'm staying with them. She did not respond nor did she call at the time of the set appointment.

One thing for sure she is fired as my agent.

Talk about a racket!

My insurance went up 600% in two years; 2013 it was $600, 2014 $1600, 2015 $4045. ; they said because I live in mtns at risk of fire. I say they increased rate so I'd drop them and the would reduce liabilities; they are shadier than sitting under a tree in the dark.

I am still in shock. I started with Farmers a year ago. I had a decent insurance company at the time, but she gave me a quote that helped lower my rates and in turn my house payment. I asked her 100 times is this a real quote and will it be my permanent price more or less, because I don't want to leave my insurance company if it isn't. She assured me it was. So I went with her. Fast forward a year later it is time for my renewal, it jumped from $750.00 a year to $3,400.00 a year. What the hell, and when I asked them why, they just gave me some sorry about regulations and was rude to me. Wouldn't even answer truthfully. I have learned a long time ago to cover my butt, so I called my old insurance back and got a quote from them for $1300.00 a year. So when Farmers called me back with a quote I just said see ya later.. I might be wrong but I feel they lowball a quote going in and then when it is time to renew they stick it to you.. Never again, I will stay with my insurance company I trust and can rely on..... Farmers is a terrible, sneaky company that should be fined..

I just received my Farmers Homeowners renewal policy this May of 2016 and my homeowners insurance was raised by 42%. I have NEVER made a claim on my homeowners policy in the 39 years that I have owned homes so their is no reason for the obscene increase in prices. Bernie Madoff was sent to jail for ripping off investors so why aren't the Farmer Insurance executives being jailed for this excessive increase in pricing.
If you are searching for new insurance DO NOT go to Farmers Insurance unless you work for a company that gives you 50% raises a year.

My premiums have been going up double-digit , consistently for the past 5 years - I was told this is an industry wide trend. I have now found out that Farmers "flipped" my home " QUALITY GRADE from TRACT HOME to CUSTOM Home. By doing this, they charge more Premium costs. But they failed to tell my Agent, or me, about the change. They alledgely rolled out a new system in 2013 , so they say, and the change occurred on the "back-end" automatically. They did NOT reflect this on the renewal docs. I just found out I have been paying HUNDREDS of dollars more than I should have been paying - and they state that it was their error, but there is nothing they can do.

I wonder how many people got bilked by Farmers on this one, resulting in MANY THOUSANDS$$$ for them ?
