Subsidy Payback Help

Subsidy Payback Help
December 22, 2012 09:21PM
I started with Farmers in January of 2012, and became a career agent in August. By the middle of September, the writing was on the wall for me. There was no way I wanted to continue with this company. It is the same story told over and over here; horrible training, unprofessional district managers that offer little to no support, unethical practices by other agents and district employees, constant rate hike making it impossible to meet already difficult quotas, and a constant feeling of impending doom.

I left in September, and owe only one half of a subsidy payment back, thankfully. My problem is, after spending 3 weeks trying to reach the “accounting department” who handles taking payback payments I was told I could make $100.00 a month payments and I’d receive a letter in the mail about it. My first payment was due the end of December.

I agreed that was fine, and waited for my first letter in regards to this payment plan. I received a letter, finally, dated December 13th. Unfortunately, it is telling me I’m going to be turned over to a collections agency for not paying the full amount due. Nothing about a payment plan at all. I’m very afraid if I try and deal with the incompetent accounting department, it will end up going to a collections agency and harm my credit.

I have made every attempt to contact them and give them money towards my debt. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you handle it, and how did it turn out?

Thanks in advance!

Did you ever figure this out? The number I have to call is 1-800-969-8340 and they should put you thru to Cathy Perzutti (I have no idea how it's spelled) I don't know if different areas have different people to call or what, but I'm in Jersey and that's who I called. I haven't set up payments yet though, so we'll see how that goes.

Just let the payment go through to collections. They don't report this to your credit score and you can not only lower the payments per month you can negotiate the amount owed significantly lower. Plus you can delay your payments for a little while if you are in a bind. It is the best option to take and on the plus side you don't have to deal with those damn farmer's people.

What collection company did you resolve it with RMS collections? I am in the process of dealing with this now. I was owe quite a bit of money back. I have tried dealing with RMS but they eventually never got back to me. Now I have another letter from a different collection agency saying it's been turned over to collections and I have 30 days or we go to court. I tried calling them but haven't heard back yet. I still don't understand how they can recollect money that we paid taxes on!

Very interesting. Had a pretty bad experience there, unethical work ethic, I saw people signing their own Life policies, and a number of other VERY bad business practices. I didn't hesitate or think twice of leaving, now I have this money I need to pay back but right is definitely not a good time.

KB, you mention that this will NOT be reported on your credit score? Is this a fact? You also mention you can negotiate, is that what you did?

Any assistance with this will be helpful

Thanks!

I would love for this to be true. Can anyone add or echo this experience?

Has anyone had Farmers turn the subsidy payment as income tax?

I received this year a 1099 misc from Farmers showing my subsidy written off as they called it. It was enter in as 'other income' or Box 3. I did not file it with my taxes as I did not earn this money from Farmers in 2016. I worked for one business. Little worried about if the IRS finds out, but at same time I have all my paperwork and if they see that I do owe it then I will go there. My hopes is my paperwork shows I don't.
