Expected to Work While on Vacation

Posted by anonymous
How's this for comical-
I took 1 week vacation in July. I received some new assignments (Seven of them) prior to going on vacation. Before I left, I entered a couple of notes in the file and had the files set up for when I returned to work. When I returned to work, I noticed, I had received mutiple "activities" from my Manager in my new files indicating I hadn't entered any notes in the files for the past week. I responded by advising I was on vacation. I immediately received a call from my Manager advising that he was told by me that I had no plans to go away or travel while on vacation and he expected me to work while on vacation. I asked if he was being serious and he advised he was dead serious. I asked him if he worked while he was on vacation and his response was "Of course not". I asked why I should have worked. He once again, said "Because you didn't go anywhere". He seems to fit the mold for the inept, moronic type of management that Farmers has. I'm currently in the process of looking for a new job. I cannot wait to leave this company.

My God, he is stupid. They are now running programs in CRN that shows when you work and they are matching it against the timecards that you input on financial (FACTS). I would make note of the activites in the file and contact HR. If this is happening to you, it will happen to your co-workers. In this case, since doing what he asked you is specifically against what the company says, the HR will back you. I would also not be too afraid of reprisals from him, it would be too obvious. As long as HR knows, your back is covered.
Also, they are sweeping thru the files as I speak and are catching people who are doing this and working OT and not reporting it.

Farmers supervisors are just puppets repeating the lingo from incompetent Managers like Melendez, some which have no college education but got the promotions by opening legs, everyone in the No. CA office knows. They dump difficult assignments on those who are not liked and cherry-pick those for favorites, que person

FARMERS INSURANCE OWN EMPLOYEE SURVEY FOR 2007 HAS ONLY 59% PARTICIPATION - THAT SHOULD BE A TELL-ALL FOR HOW EMPLOYEES FEEL ABOUT THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY.

I and many others were asked to work while on vacation as well; as long as we weren't going anywhere of course. It seems that this is a common occurance in all Farmers offices. According to HR, you are supposed to be taken off assignment 2 and 1/2 days before you go on vacation.

That has never happened and HR always ignores you when you complain about it. I think that they teach managers to force their employees to work while on vacation, if their not going anywhere of course. One of the managers in my office was forced to cut her vacation short by three days and come into work due to high claim volume. This is very illegal, but as you all know, Farmers doesn't care about what is legal and illegal, they do whatever is in their best interest. They are all about profits, customer service and employee satisfaction are their bottom priorities.

I encourage all former and past employees to go to www.jobvent.com and rate Farmers Insurance. Don't let others make the same mistake that we did.

If you HR is anything like the HR at the HelpPoint, it won't do anygood. Head of HR was overheard at a party talking about how stupid all the Supervisor's were and non of them would get a promotion.
