Does anyone know of court cases or other complaints about the way Farmers uses their in-house employed lawyers (to save money and keep disputes internal) rather than hire outside attorneys?

Hello, I know that Farmers Insurance does have their own Attorneys as part of their paid staff to fight accident claims against their insured clients.
At least here in CA. this is a fact! This is what was told to me by my attorney.

If you are ever in an accident with anyone, especially someone with Farmers Ins. make sure you call the police! Do not move your vehicle until the police arrive!!

I was in my first accident ever, 2 years ago rear ended in a left turn lane while stopped waiting for the light to change. The person who rear ended me lied and is claiming that I backed into them! I had to get an attorney, Because Farmers has decided to give their attorneys something to do!

I was injured and will never be the same! So Please Always call the police and get the names of a witness if you are ever in an accident!!

Carol Call (800) 435 7764. Helppoint also, they'll send the ajuster over there I am unfamiliar with Arizona polices (as they vary form state to state) They will send some one to do a leak detection upon dertmining the leak, they will assess the damage. Contact your agent for a review appointment ASAP. (you might want to do it before the claim is filed.)

I just filed a claim with Farmers in Arizona. The cold weather may have caused a pipe to burst flooding my house for several days. I was wondering how things worked out for you and if you think a public adjuster can help. Farmers is saying they will not cover the damage because I didn't leave my heat on while I was out. I have had the house for 13 years and never had to leave the heat on. I also can't find the amendment H6104A which apparently refers to water damage.

I don’t know your details however, I was told by a FIG supervisor more than once on water/ mold type claim

"we might pay the claim but we're gonna make sure they’re have to work for it"

Sorry to say but the claim is already going sour so I would tell you like Ive been told

FARMERS might pay the claim but they are gonna make sure you have to work for it

if you house was not vaccant then you likley should be covered - depending on the exact cause of the break

What is Farmer's policy regarding small children (3 and under)in auto accidents? Do they low ball them too? Is it best to get an attorney? What if the is not excessive physical injury but diagnosed psych trauma? What if Farmer's insured is at fault?

Well, I think that Farmers would treat them as anyone else. The burden of proof lies with the claimiant. If I can ready your message right, you meant that there was not much damage but pys trauma? If this is correct, getting an attorney would not help much. It would be hard to prove anyone under 3 can be traumatized to the degree that they need any time of addl psyclogical help. Mainly due to age, I doubt if a GP can prove that either. Farmers would hold you, a Dr. or attorney to the same standard, you have to prove the injury. If the child is hurt to any degree, Farmers will require a friendly suit anyway and pay for a Ad-Lidem (sp?) to settle the loss for a minor. I would question really hard how someone can test a children of that age and be able to say with a degree of certainly that they are suffering as you stated.

Received a claim denial letter from a Farmers adjuster. From an accident involving being hit from behind by a driver insured by Farmers. We were sitting in left turn lane at a traffic light Accident was witnessed by another driver sitting in the lane nearest the turn lane. Witness reported that at time driver that caused the accident was seen eating a french fry and not paying attention but also observed my wife(passenger) grabbing a hold of her neck at moment of collision. Wife has/is currently seeing a chiropractor related to accident. What is the most efficient means to get this settled short of resorting to small claims court(although will do so if necessary)? What kind of situations that compel or frustrate adjuster that make them more willing to settle just to close claim? thanks...

James,
Farmers Insurance Adjusters are rewarded for denying claims and lowballing. Definitely file a complaint with your Dept of Insurance
[www.farmersinsurancegroupsucks.com]
and sue them in Small Claims.

Make sure to have everything documented, witness statements and pictures.

James - First of all, did Farmers deny the entire claim? Or just Chiropractic treatment? Second, was this a low speed impact? If so, then your wife probably wasn't actually injured, or aggravated a prior injury, in which case the injury would be apportioned by the PIP or Med adjuster. As much as Farmers Insurance bites the weenie, they are still only obligated to pay what they owe - nothing more, nothing less. I would need more details from you in order to determine whether or not you have a case.

At this moment I prefer to remain annonymous , but I would like to know what the procedure is in deciding who is negligent in an automobile accident. Can Farmers make judgement based only on a single statement from each of the parties involved as to what happened ,without visually inspecting the damage on both vehicles?I was found negligent based on statement made by the other driver that was an absolute fabrication (total lie)by them as to how the accident occured..They intentionally hit me out of road rage in the rear of my vehicle & tried to say that it was my fault for making an illegal lane change , which was also false.I was intentionally rammed by their vehicle because they did not want me to get in their lane.I called Farmers and initiated a claim to protect my interests in case I had problems with the other parties insurance carrier.I was astounded when I got the call from the Farmers claims adjuster when they told me they were finding me negligent.I told my adjuster that they had already agreed to pay for my vehicle , he then proceded to call the other party & tell them I was found negligent & Farmers would pay.I have more details about this but I prefer to withold it at this point until I receive further council from my attorney.Something just smells really fishy about this whole claim.I pay Farmers to protect my interests & they have caused me to possibly lose the claim with the other motorists company after they agreed to pay for my damages. Now they have withdrawn my claim.I am sure that my premium will also go up after this. Can someone please shed some light on this for me?????

My teen got his learners permit and in California, teens under 18, have to complete 60hrs of behind-the-wheel driving. When I let my Farmers agent know that he was going to be learning in my car he said it would cost me and additional $215 a month. He said this was Farmers policy. $2,100 later I found out, by emailing other Farmers agents, that he should not have charged me until my teen got his license. When I called my agent to let him know what other Farmers agents had told me and to demand a refund he said he was told by customer service that he was suppose to charge the additional premium. He said he would contact underwriting and let them know what we discussed and that I wanted a refund. A week went by and I had not heard from my agent so I called him and he said he had not heard anything yet but would call me as soon as he had some news for me. Another week went by and still nothing. A few more days went by and the day I was going to call my agent again I got a check in the mail for $1,972. The letter that came with said that I was receiving this check due to an overpayment. No other explanation. And my agent never called me to let me know that things had been settled. What is really going on here? Its like hush money. It seems like they know they did something wrong but are not going to admit it.
Until this happened I really loved Farmers. I have been with them since 1984 and have had great service from them. My claims were settled quickly, my car was fixed quickly. I had no complaints what so ever. Now, I have to say that Insurance Agents fall into the same category with Real Estate Agents and Politicians.

I am looking for suggestions for my situation. I began the career program on Oct.1 2008. After talking to my DM and the Office Recruiter, they told me that my quarters ran month to month. After returning from California in the begining of Dec., I asked them again when I had to have my 40 and 4 in by for the quarter. I was again told that I had to the end of the month. After selling 40 and 40 by the end of December, I was feeling good. I then received a letter stating that I had falling of subsidy and had to make up my numbers or I would be out of the program.
After getting back on subsidy, I then ran into another problem with Farmers. I had two of my life policies cancel on the 29th day. These were considered Not Taken and I would have to make these two policies up or a would fall of the subsidy program. The problem I have is that everything that I have seen in Farmers is that the customer has a free 10 day look to decide if they want the policy or not. I have since been told that it was changed from a 10 day to a 30 day free look back in 2007, "They think." This change is no where in writing but, they are doing it for a benefit to the customer. The funny thing is on the first page of a policy it clearly states they have 10 days.
I do what I have to do and sell the 6 life policies to stay on track with the program. They are all issued and paid by the final day of the quarter. Luckily I printed it out because one of the policies changed from I & P to needing a requirement. A requirement that was already submitted and approved. This caused me to fall of subsidy again. They are looking into it but, it has been shot down by home office because my book of business was not where they would like it to be.

hello, I saw a blog on the farmers suck web site. Someone wrote something about changing your agent. Can you tell me what the procedure is for this. I am having issues with my farmers agent, and I find that I can not work with him anymore. The drama is just stressful and I simply don't trust him. Can you tell me what the request should ask for without having to go into a lot of detail. Can the letter be send via e mail. Do I need to include a new agents name. I don't have a problem with the company, I just want a different agent.
Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Denise,
The new agent the DM will transfer you to has to pay one years commission to your ex-agent in order for you to transfer.

My recommendation would be to interview several other agents, find one that you like, then write your business with the new agent as new business. I would recommend you do so on your renewal dates in order to not be short rated. Your new agent will be able to cancel your old policies.

I hope you are not on their monthly billing system, if so, send a certified letter (with a cc to yourself) to your future exagent canceling your policies on their renewal date at least 30 days before. Contact your bank and remove the authority to automatic withdrawl from your account if you pay that way.

Then a couple of days before your insurance expires, visit your new agent and let him/her write your business.

I had a total loss due to fire. I am struggling with poor communiation with my adjuster. The process has been explained to me over the phone leaving me under or misinformed (or deliberately mislead). Every time I attempt to make a property claim, the rules seem to change, delaying my payment. My main question is, in this industry and this technological age, is it customary to not, or refuse to communicate via email?

I have to say Farmers can go to hell!! Due to Farmers agent errors and adjuster errors in order to cover their mistakes and misleading information they provided and due to unethical treatment. Farmers hired an attorney against their insured to drill their insured and treated their insured like a criminal as soon as they realized their own errors. Due to their errors I lost my business and my business partner. My business was my childhood dream that I spent all my life saving for and 2 years to build from ground up and the time I took from my children to build my business with my partner. I almost got kicked out of my apartment and to this day not even one penny from Farmers they still interrogating me and my partner over their own mistakes. My business was vandalized to the extreme and my partner’s insurance cover what was their part but my insurance which I got from Farmers to protect my investments never did. I believe that this world really belongs to cheaters big gurus like Farmers. I pray now every night that one day Farmers will burn in Hell due to their lies and how they train their employees to lie.
This problem left damaging effects on my health and my family and just for the record I never hired a lawyer which I should have but I am going to complain to State Department & Federal trade commissioner. I hope people will read my message and understand to never trust Framers and if you have a claim hire a lawyer don’t be naïve like me and think that you have nothing to hide and you are telling the truth is good enough and you do not need a lawyer. Please hire a lawyer because Farmers will do the lying for you when you present to them without a Lawyers. Please take cautions talking to them. Because to them you are just another pizza party when they screw you over Farmers train their agents and adjusters as ethical violators and liars.
