Farmers Insurance is suing its own Agent

Posted by Dianne Alford
I worked for a tine Farmers agency in a samll town in eatern Oregon, population 3000. Due to increases in premium and general lack of competetiveness, the agency principal left Farmers. We both of course were under the one year non-compete agreement. I purchased the agency and am working my tail off to build it up to support my family. My year is now up, and today I get legal paperwork from Farmers saying during my year, I violated the non comptete agreement ( I was very careful not to), and they are suing me as I have damaged Farmers Insurance Exchange to the tune of one quarter of a million dollars!! Help

Dianne,

Sorry to hear about this. I am not surprised at all. You may want to contact a lawyer that is familiar with the Farmers Insurance Agent Appointment Agreement (AAA). One lawyer who may be familiar with this is Allen Schirado's lawyer. You can read about Schirado v Farmers Insurance here:
[farmersinsurancegroupsucks.com]

According to the opinion, Schirado's attorney is Charles “Casey” L. Chapman

Hopefully he can assist you or find someone who can.

There seems to be a trend of Agents being terminated

This is just a suggestion, not legal advice.

BTW, is this how Farmers Insurance treats its loyal agents? Anyone reading this should learn that it would be smart to avoid being a Farmers Insurance agent and go Independent.

Hi my name is Therese and I have an interview this afternoon with a DM from Farmers in Tulsa, Ok. I have read a lot disappointing reviews of Farmers Insurance, its Dm's and agents. I have never worked in the insurance business before and have been a stay at home mom for 5 years. My question is, am I going to front any money to this company to become an employee and is this a WASTE of my time?
Any comments would be great! I have no one else to go to!!
Thank you,
Sincerely

Farmers Insurance is suing my brother Dan and I for allegedly violating our non- compete. Farmers district managers in the Chicago Area are notoriousfor allowing certain agents to operate both as an independent and Farmers Agent. As long as these agents write life insurance, these DM's look the other way.

Farmers is trying to bankrupt us. I have five children and a special needs daughter with Down's Syndrome. I will have to support her as long as I live. This company is being vindictive and cruel. This is all occuring during the worst economy our generation has ever known. What kind of company would do this to innocent children and their father who is trying to support them!? Does Farmers have no shame? I have a daughter in college and many bills like every other American. I don't need Farmers vindictive lawsuit to add to my familie's stress.

If anyone reading this has ties to any media source that I could tell my story to, please contact me at 708-672-3276. I want this story out as soon as possible! Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Jim Cavanaugh

How do you get around the 1 year non compete ? I think I have found a way to I just want to make sure it's right. I am the agent owner of the Farmers agency and my wife is not P&C licensed nor Life/Health and of course she's not appointed with Farmers at all. Could my wife get her P&C and her life/health and write people out of our Farmers book ? Or would that violate the contract as well ?
